| WAI’s post-disaster
assessment experience is not limited to earthquakes. Several engineers
and scientists have been involved in reconnaissance efforts following
most of the major terrorist blast events dating back to Beirut,
Lebanon in 1983. WAI was actively involved in the immediate post-disaster
evaluation of numerous buildings surrounding the World Trade Center
Towers following the 9/11 attacks. Several of the firm’s New
York office engineers were active participants in the effort led
by the Structural Engineering Association of New York to adapt the
ATC-20 method and survey forms for post-9/11 use in lower Manhattan.
Key members of the WAI blast engineering staff led the investigation
of the Bankers Trust Building for the FEMA/ASCE Building Performance
Investigation Project.
