| When
buildings are newly leased by federal agencies or leases are renewed,
the provisions of the Standards of Seismic Safety for Existing Federal
Buildings are applied, unless the building is exempted under the Standards
or the building is the best available space from a seismic safety
perspective.
R&C work
with the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Overseas Buildings
Operations serves as a relevant example of our pre-lease
survey
experience. At several of the 22 Embassy sites that were visited,
R&C performed a walk-through evaluation of government-occupied
buildings, filled out FEMA 310-based survey forms, and developed
recommendations for lease policy to affect the reduction of seismic
risk.
We
would be pleased to assist federal agencies or building owners desiring
to lease to federal agencies with their building assessments.
