Rutherford & Chekene,
Weidlinger Associates, Inc. engineers and scientists have performed
post-earthquake site investigations following most significant earthquakes
in the U.S. and abroad dating back to the 1971 San Fernando earthquake,
including the recent Nisqually, ChiChi, Izmit, Kobe, Guam, Northridge,
Loma Prieta, and Landers earthquakes. These investigations serve
several purposes, such as: general reconnaissance to observe the
effects of shaking and secondary geotechnical/geologic
behavior on structures, rapid structural evaluation to assist occupants
with safety decisions, and detailed damage documentation for failure
investigation and retrofit design. Several engineers on the joint
venture team have been trained and certified as post-earthquake
building safety inspectors (following the ATC-20 procedure). Our
combined technical staff of nearly 300, located in eight offices
nationwide, ensures availability and rapid response for post-disaster
assessment services.
