The ISC Security Design
Criteria includes requirements to make all new designs less vulnerable
to progressive collapse. Structures undergoing major rehabilitation
and/or seismic rehabilitation are required to be analyzed using
these criteria, to assess the feasibility of including upgrades
in major projects.
Progressive collapse analysis is not an analysis of the effect
of a blast—it is event-independent. The purpose of the analysis
is to determine a structure’s ability to survive the loss
of individual vertical load-carrying elements. The analysis is best
accomplished by a structural engineer that is familiar with the
behavior of structural systems, components and connections.
The joint venture team includes structural engineers with expertise
in a broad range of building construction types and the performance
of analyses for progressive collapse. The joint venture offers WAI
principals that have participated in the development of the progressive
collapse guidelines used by federal agencies.
